At only 22, Guardado is considered to be one of Mexico’s most promising players. Conjuring interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, Real Madrid, Internazionale and Manchester United, Guardado picked a move to Deportivo La Coruňa. It soon emerged why the mid table side smashed their transfer record in order to claim the signature of the Mexican, when he was just 20 years old.

Possessing blistering pace and a set of tricks that Cristiano Ronaldo would be proud of, Guardado is perfectly suited to the high tempo of the Spanish game. Guardado is great with the ball at his feet, having excellent control, and regularly cuts inside the fullback to try and play that killer ball into his strikers. Guardado himself is also a major goal threat, scoring trademark screamers from long distance with his thunderbolt of a left foot for both club and country.

A pivotal part to the Deportivo team in his two seasons at the club, Guardado has been the man that provides the attacking flair and creativity from his role on the left wing. Joining a club recently fallen from the pinnacle of European football, Guardado’s 2 goals and especially 7 assists in his 29 league games have fired them back up into contention of the top 4 places in Spain, recently shown with Deportivo’s solid 7th position finish. Also a key player in the Mexico national side, Guardado has been playing internationally since 2005, from the age of 19, earning an impressive 41 caps which feature appearances in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
