Gonzalo Castro - Report

Full name: Gonzalo Castro Randon

Date of birth: 11 June 1987

Place of birth: Wuppertal, West Germany

Height: 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in)

Playing position: Wingback, Right Winger

Club: Bayern Leverkusen

Gonzalo is a very versatil player, he plays at right back for Leverkusen, showing useful bursts of pace and attacks down the right flank, but despite Castro's height of only 5'7 he is also capable of playing at centre back. For Germany, where he has featured for the U'21's and the senior squad prefer to play him on the right wing. This means his goals and assist record do vary dependent on club or country. When playing for his country in the U 21's European Championships he scored twice in five games, both those goals were scored against England; whereas for Leverkusen Castro has scored just 6 times in 120 appearences

Castro is often compared to an early Daniel Alves, even when playing in that defensive role, Castro loves making forward runs and using his pace to his advantage, often whipping in dangerous crossing gaining him and his team valuable assists.

Castro hasn't been heavily linked away from Leverksuen, and at present seems perfectly happy to stay put: "Bayern is my club and I'm convinced that we will have a lot of success with our team," Castro told the club's official website after signing a new deal until 30 June 2012.
